I use the Rockschool syllabus with my drum students, and the majority of them love it. The book features 6 songs at grade 5 level, some technical exercises and other useful material. Each song is in a different genre - from pop to hip hop. At the back of the book, there are some grade 5 level technical exercises, and also a sneak preview of the next grade. After a student finishes working on each book, I put them forward to sit the Rockschool exam, to which there is a fee. This is entirely optional however, but it is great experience and the qualifications are accredited, so can be great for the CV, and getting into college/university. Everything here is to a high quality; the book, the CD and the material overall. The CD features 3 versions of each song, 1 with drums, 1 without drums and 1 without drums but with a click.

No. 5 in the essential series for any budding drummer. Clear and relatively simple and very informative. I must admit that to a certain extent, the older series felt better, but time moves on. So these books plus a good teacher and lots of practise should set you well on your way.

The only problem is it doesnt contain an explanation of drum notations - presume you get these in an earlier grade book...
