Fantastic pieces that cover a range of style - challenging but by no means impossible. Having done RGT grades in the past I find rockschool to be the best.

As a guitar teacher, I would wholly recommend Rockschool. (No they don't pay me). Most of my students would be capable of playing Reading by the time they hit Grade 4. Covers all styles relative to electric guitar with well written pieces that are pastiches of well known bands/tracks. Regardless of the qualification, they are great learning aids.

Perfect gift for my boyfriend. He is studying for his Grade 8 in Guitar to aid him with his University application and this book is the best guide to use. He is very impressed with the product and has been using it since he got it on Christmas Day

Nice pieces, CD, notation and TAB. CD pieces played by some of the top session musicians. Great audition pieces if you are applying for higher eduction music courses. My only gripe is that this book ultimately promotes reading in TAB. I am probably in the minority, but I like the challenge of reading the notation. I play professionally and teach the guitar, and TAB is never written on a gig, always notation, therefore it's important to learn to read if you want that type of work in the future. The pieces are written in notation but no directives are given to the string or finger the note should be played with. So it could be an open string lick but you are trying to play it with fretted notes. This then forces you to look at the TAB to make sure you are playing it on the correct string. Once you look at the TAB, you ain't gonna look back up!!! This might be because there is not enough space on the stave, or it would look visually confusing if all the information was there plus the TAB. But I think it is important to help guitarists to sight read if they want to, and as this is an 'exam study book' designed to improve a guitar players all round knowledge, then Rockschool should make sure they provide all the information necessary.
